Pocco WordPress Theme

  • Install Plugins

After installing Pocco, you'll see a notification in the top of the page that says the theme needs some plugins to function properly. Pocco theme requires follow plugins (all are free and available on WordPress.org). Pocco is working perfectly with these plugins. It automatically adds more styles to them to make the design match the theme.

Go to Appearance > Install Plugins. You'll be redirect to a page where all needed plugins are listed. Just click on Install below each plugin's name. After installing, if it's required to activate the plugin, just activate.

  • XML Demo Content

After installing the theme, you can import the XML data file (located in the XML Demo Content folder of the original zip file), which will populate your theme with dummy posts, categories, tags, and menus. For more information about how to import Wordpress XML data, click here and scroll down to the Wordpress section.

If you are new to WordPress and have problems with setting up the theme you might want to import the demo content file that comes with the theme. The following actions will import some dummy posts and pages from the live preview.

    • Go to Tools > Import.
    • Select WordPress from the list.
    • If you haven't installed the WordPress import plugin, a popup window will appears and ask you to install it. Just click Install Now. When the installation progress is completed, click Activate Plugin & Run Importer. If you have installed this plugin, skip to next step.
    • Click Browse and select xml_demo_content.xml file from the download package.
    • Click Upload file and import.
    • When you are asked to import author, you can create new author or import to existing author. You also should check the checkbox Download and import file attachments.
  • Widget Demo Content

Widget Importer & Exporter is useful for moving widgets from one WordPress site to another, backing up widgets and for theme developers to provide users with sample widgets.

    • Go to Tools > Widget Importer & Exporter.
    • Click to Choose File from Import Widgets and select widget-demo-content.wie file from the download package.
    • Click to Import Widgets.
  • Child Theme

A child theme is a theme that inherits the functionality and styling of another theme, called the parent theme. Child themes are the recommended way of modifying an existing theme. There are a few reasons why you would want to use a child theme:

    • If you modify a theme directly and it is updated, then your modifications may be lost. By using a child theme you will ensure that your modifications are preserved.
    • Using a child theme can speed up development time.
    • Using a child theme is a great way to learn about WordPress theme development.

If you want to customize your theme, We do recommend to use a child theme and edit it instead of editing your core theme files directly. In your downloaded package from ThemeForest, we've included a sample child-theme with minimal functionalities which you can simply install it on your theme and activate it as a child theme. You should extract the child theme .zip archive file and put it in this directory:

    /wp-content/themes/pocco-child/

once you activate this child theme from your WordPress admin, you can copy any files from Pocco parent theme into this new directory and edit it to make your own changes on it. This way, you can customize Pocco without changing the theme core files. And now, you can enjoy upgrading your theme to the latest versions without worring of loosing your changes.

  • Manually Updating

From time to time, a theme update will be released that either fixes a bug and/or adds new features to the theme. You can update the theme in one of two ways:

Download the latest version of the theme. You can upload the new /pocco folder (located in the pocco.zip file) via FTP and overwrite the old files. Updating the theme will overwrite any changes you made to any of the core files (index.php, style.css, header.php, etc), however, you will not lose any changes you made to the theme options, menus, widgets, etc.

  • Automatic Updating

They have been introduced for creating macros to be used in a post's content. Shortcodes in WordPress are little bits of code that allow you to do various things with little effort.

  • Column

    Example column width and column shortcode: size="1" → column width: 100%, size="2" → column width: 50% or size="4" → column width: 25%

Translations

  • Theme Translation

Pocco comes translation-ready with .pot file ready for translation. These files are located in the /languages folder of the main theme folder. Once you have translated the files, simply save them with the name of your language code (i.e. es_ES.po and es_ES.mo for Spanish) and place them back in the /languages folder.

If you want to translate Pocco into your language, you can download pocco.pot file from languages folder of your theme directory and translate it with a program such as Poedit. Then rename it to your language code (such as de_DE.po/de_DE.mo or fr_FR.po/fr_FR.mo or ...) and upload it in your theme languages directory. Then simply change the language of your wordpress by changing WPLANG parameter in your wp-config.php file (This file is in your website root directory).

For example if you have translated your theme in Spanish and you want to change the language of your website to Spanish, update this line in wp-config.php as below:

    1. define('WPLANG', 'es_ES');

There are so many tutorials about this issue on the net so you can google it if you are not familiar with customizing wordpress config file.

    .bgfixed Background attachment: fixed
    .container

Bootstrap requires a containing element to wrap site contents and house our grid system. You may choose one of two containers to use in your projects. Note that, due to padding and more, neither container is nestable. Use .container for a responsive fixed width container.

    .container-fluid

Use .container-fluid for a full width container, spanning the entire width of your viewport.

Images

When creating or editing a WordPress page or blog post, you can easily add images at any time using the WordPress Media Uploader tool. Pocco supports featured images. Pocco utilizes WordPress built-in Featured Image feature to handle image management. To set the featured image for a post, go to Posts > Add New (or edit an existing post) and click the Upload/Insert icon above the main text box. From here, choose a file and upload it. Once it is uploaded, click Use as featured image located near the bottom of the Add Media window. Then click Save all changes, close the Add Media window and you're good to go!

  • Regenerate Images

Regenerate Thumbnails allows you to regenerate the thumbnails for your image attachments. This is very handy if you've changed any of your thumbnail dimensions (via Settings -> Media) after previously uploading images or have changed to a theme with different featured post image dimensions.
